New Premier Inn hotel for central Swindon
Planners give go ahead for Whitbread project
Swindon planners have given the go ahead for a new 197-bedroom Premier Inn hotel and steakhouse to be built in Regent Street. The £17m development at the former Aspen House was approved and follows a deal with hospitality giant Whitbread.
The redevelopment of Swindon town centre is one of the council’s major priorities, and the plans for the former Aspen House site come alongside further regeneration taking place at Kimmerfields, Fleming Way and the North Star Village.
Peter Lawson, from planning consultancy Turley, said:
- “Whitbread’s investment in this key site will assist in regenerating the upper part of Regent Street and will boost footfall both during the daytime and into the evening to the benefit of Swindon town centre as a whole.”
