From 1 January 2021, new rules will apply to businesses trading with Europe.  This follows the end of the Brexit transition period, and the UK’s exit from the EU single market and customs union.

Under the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement (agreed 24 December) there will be no tariffs or quotas on the movement of goods between the UK and the EU.  However, traders must be ready for new customs and border processes implemented by EU member states from 1 January 2021.

Swindon and Wiltshire Growth Hub has set up a new service to help local businesses understand what the changes mean for them.  The business readiness team will operate as part of the Swindon and Wiltshire Growth Hub, which has a strong record for supporting local business.

A team of business navigators will be available to firms across Swindon and Wiltshire from 5 January, to provide information and advice, as well as access to specialist support.

Chris Stevens, Swindon and Wiltshire Growth Hub Manager, said:

“Now that we know the terms of the UK-EU trade deal, our EU Transition business readiness team is here to support local businesses to continue to trade with Europe.

Whether this is about importing or exporting goods to the EU, or providing business services, we can signpost information and provide access to specialist advice.

We look forward to supporting businesses in Swindon and Wiltshire and helping to achieve as smooth a transition as possible”.

In addition to the specialist advice service a range of webinars will be taking place over the coming weeks to support businesses with the latest advice and guidance.  Businesses are advised to register their interest in attending with the Swindon and Wiltshire Growth Hub.
