Wiltshire-based Good Energy has received the highest rating in a new ranking of 100% renewable electricity tariffs, by consumer champion Which? The company was recognised for matching all of its customers’ electricity demand through generating enough clean power from its own projects and buying directly from UK renewable generators.
The Which? Energy Tariff Greenwash investigation found most suppliers with ‘100% renewable tariffs’ have not invested in their own renewable generation sites, while one third do not have contracts with renewable generators.
Instead suppliers are buying wholesale power, including fossil fuels, alongside cheap renewable certificates which provide little to no support in increasing the share of clean energy in the market.
