Government has announced an ambition to increase the number of female entrepreneurs by 50% by 2030, equivalent to nearly 600,000 additional female entrepreneurs.

This follows publication of the Alison Rose Review of Female Entrepreneurship - a government-commissioned review into the barrier’s faced by women starting and growing businesses and identified ways of unlocking this untapped talent.

The goal of the report is to help build a stronger, more productive economy by making the UK the best country in the world for women to start and grow new businesses.” One recommendation of the report is to 'Improve access to expertise by expanding the ‘entrepreneur and banker in residence programmes'

Alison Rose, Chief Executive of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc, and author of the review made eight recommendations to accelerate change, including improving access to expertise by expanding the entrepreneur and banker in residence programmes.  The ‘Expert in Residence’ Programme aims to encourage and support female entrepreneurship.

We are delighted to welcome Michelle Collins, our ‘Expert in Residence’ as part of the national roll-out. and we are delighted to be working with NatWest to launch the programme in the SWLEP area.

Michelle will undertake a consultation to identify your needs and signpost to the most appropriate service options, including providing frequent and useful business information, advice, and updates via social media platforms.

Whilst the focus of the programme is to support female entrepreneurs, it is open to all businesses and business owners.  Having Michelle on-board will be a huge asset to the SWLEP team and gives us a unique opportunity to proactively respond to the Alison Rose Review.
