A campaign has been launched to save Swindon's iconic Oasis leisure centre from closure, possibly by taking it into Council ownership.

A Swindon poll gave voters options for the future of the site at North Star and 83 per cent wanted the Oasis to remain open in some form. The most popular option was Swindon Borough Council seizing back ownership of the site from Seven Capital, which has a 99-year lease.

The centre has been faced with permanent closure after Seven Capital and GLL decided last month it was no longer financially viable and that re-development plans would be scrapped.
