Swindon-based building society Nationwide has opened a new digital hub in the town, employing 700 tech staff.

The mutual has invested millions of pounds in the scheme, and says Ramsbury House at Kembrey Park will play a key role in the delivery of new digital services.

It also says the building is the most sustainable it has ever built. It features a cycle park, an onsite gym, and a 'town hall' space for employee gatherings – a beloved feature of Silicon Valley tech HQs.

All of its energy needs are generated by renewables and recyclable materials were used throughout its construction.

The society has also partnered with Wiltshire-based charity, Waste to Wonder, to help redistribute, rather than throw out, any unused office furniture and IT equipment to schools who really need it.

The society intends to spend an extra £1.3bn in technology over the next five years.
