The isolation period for those in contact with a COVID-19 case has been cut from 10 days to seven as long as people have a negative test on day six and seven. The government also announced a new £1 billion package of help for businesses affected by COVID-19.
The guidance includes regular testing, isolating after testing positive, opening windows if meeting indoors, wearing a face covering and getting the booster vaccine now.

New data suggests that the protection given by two vaccine jabs is reduced against the Omicron version of COVID-19. But a booster jab boosts protection to over 70%. Everyone aged over 18 can now book their booster jab online.
Face coverings must be used in most indoor public places including places of worship. Children under 11, and anyone with a health condition or disability, which means they cannot wear a face covering, do not have to wear one.
It is important to get regularly tested for COVID-19, to protect yourself, your family and your community.
Businesses play a vital role in helping to support their staff in getting their vaccines. Only through collective effort will we help people to make well informed decisions and encourage as many people as possible to get vaccinated.
The last 20 months have impacted us all in different ways and it has been a difficult time for everyone. Looking after our mental health is really important and this year is no different.
