Proposals to develop a new distribution centre on an existing business park in Swindon have received the green light, with the scheme expected to create 1,500 jobs upon completion.

Panattoni lodged the plans with Swindon Council to construct a new distribution and storage building, labelled as phase six of the Symmetry Park development.

The application site is situated south of the Bristol to London railway line and the A420, where a newly constructed spine road provides access to the proposed unit.

The proposal provides a main warehouse building space amounting to approximately 500,000 sq ft, with loading doors on both of the south and west elevations, each served by a service area designed to provide the main vehicular interfaces with the building.

A car park is located on the northern part of the site, in front and next to the offices and with direct access off the estate road.

Approximately 791 car parking spaces are provided, including 41 disabled and 158 electric spaces. Additionally, the plans include the provision of 96 HGV vehicle spaces.

The development will provide around 1,500 full time jobs in a variety of skilled, semi-skilled and manual roles.

A statement filed with the council on behalf of the applicant said: "The development will complete the employment development of Symmetry Park and secure the remaining S106 benefits and infrastructure payments."
