This year, National Apprenticeship Week is themed - Apprenticeships Work - and aims to address many misconceptions employers have about the breadth of apprenticeship provision available and the impact apprentices have on business.
Yet many employers do not know that apprenticeships are going through their biggest overhaul in a generation.
The reforms are specifically aimed at putting employers in the driving seat and developing apprenticeships that will work for employers of all shapes and sizes.
One major change is that businesses themselves are writing the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed for an apprentice to be considered competent rather than the training sector.
Another change is the breadth of jobs that apprenticeships now cover. In fact, some sectors, like journalism, that have never had an apprenticeship route before, now have the option to ‘grow their own’ staff and develop a pipeline of talented employees.
