In collaboration with Recycling Technologies in Swindon, INEOS Styrolution is to invest in the setting up of a pilot plant for the advanced recycling of polystyrene.
Recycling Technologies’ fluidised bed reactor technology is to be the basis of the facility set, with the plant projected to be operational in the latter half of 2022.
The verdict was said to be significant as a ‘step forward’ in the launch of polystyrene recycling through depolymerisation. This highly developed technology converts polystyrene waste feedstock back into Styrene (it’s main building block). Styrene can be used to manufacture new products that share identical properties to the original, virgin material.
President of EMEA at INEOS Styrolution, Dr. Alexander Glück, stated:
"With Recycling Technologies, we have found a partner, who is not only offering a very attractive technology, but who is also sharing our own vision to avoid polystyrene ending up in landfills or being incinerated.
