Swindon will soon receive an extra £6.2m in funding from the government, the borough council's allocation from the second tranche from Whitehall to help cover the cost of fighting the coronavirus crisis.
It brings the total it has received since March to £11.2m - but deputy council leader Russell Holland warned his cabinet colleagues and the scrutiny committee that both the council’s spending had increased and its ability to raise revenue has been affected.
When Swindon's slice of the £1.6bn funding was announced, he said:
“I would like to thank the government for the very rapid response in getting this much-needed additional funding to councils.”
