Swindon-based WH Smith
delivered a good performance over the Christmas trading period, ahead of
expectations and despite reduced footfall on the High Street.
The company said that high street revenue in December was at
92 per cent of 2019 levels. For the 20 weeks to 16 January 2021, total group
revenue was 59 per cent of 2019 revenue for the period.
WH Smith group chief executive, Carl Cowling, said:
“Covid-19 continues to have a significant impact on the WH Smith Group, however we are pleased with our performance over the Christmas period which was better than anticipated.”
