How to Futureproof yourself through skills

How skills can play an integral role in personal development and the eventuality of opportunity.

In these challenging and uncertain times, you might be considering what your future employment looks like.  Some will be challenged by a new role and some might be looking for a new role.  There are many ways in which you can futureproof yourself to ensure you can adapt your skills at a moment’s notice.  To help you identify your transferable skills there are a number of tools to help you such as Skills Health Check or maybe Career Pilot. You can also access a wealth of information on the Work Wiltshire site to help you look at many areas including jobs and careers to local programmes.  

If you are looking for work you might want to consider speaking to Job Centre Plus, you can even look at some great new opportunities through their new online resource Find a Job Service.  There are many recruitment agencies such as Manpower, Reed, and many local ones within Swindon and Wiltshire that can be found here to help you navigate new options.

You may need support with CV development, covering letter, interview preparation or even networking.  Resources to help can be found here. If you are completely unsure you can access free support via the National Careers Service.

You might need some training to equip yourself more effectively, there are several options to consider.  You can explore Higher Futures’ newly launched Learning Hub where you will find a comprehensive prospectus of Higher Education courses including Apprenticeships, delivered locally by leading colleges and universities.  The introduction of higher and degree apprenticeships mean that there has never been a better or more exciting time to consider apprenticeships.  You can find out more information about Apprenticeships on the Higher Futures Apprenticeships page.

There are currently a few free training options which might fit your requirement, many of which can be found here.  The Government have also launched a new free online resource called The Skills Toolkit and if you are facing redundancy or have been made redundant you might be to access fully funded training with Serco
