What RESG does:

  • Champions rural economic development in Swindon and Wiltshire, identifying and communicating strategic needs of rural business sectors, providing insights to help steer sustainable growth.
  • Informs SWLEP strategies, plans and programmes to support rural economic development.
  • Provides a forum and information exchange network for the benefit of rural businesses and stakeholders.
  • Informs and influences the SWLEP Board, DEFRA, Parliamentary Committees and other relevant bodies regarding the rural economic development needs of Swindon and Wiltshire. LEADER funds smaller projects (generally £5000 - £100,000 grants) whilst the Growth Programme funds larger projects, (generally from £35,000 to around £200,000 grants).

Swindon and Wiltshire’s extensive rural areas are home to a wide-range of businesses across sectors from ICT, design, enabling technologies, advanced manufacturing to more traditional rural sectors such as farming, food, forestry and tourism, all situated in a historic landscape. This rural base presents challenges, such as access to skilled labour, transportation and communications, as well as many benefits, such as availability of land and natural capital. Driving rural economic growth is key to Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership (SWLEP) vision for the local economy.
