Funded by the Department for Transport (DfT), Innovate UK (IUK) has launched three competition strands to support advanced feasibility studies into zero emission road freight.
There is a total budget of £10 million available across these three strands:
- Strand 1: Electric Road System Demonstration Feasibility Studies
The aim of this strand is to fund feasibility studies on the future deployment of an electric road system for 44 tonne zero emission road freight. It seeks to enable pre-deployment work for a possible future electric road system demonstration. Funding will be awarded to projects with total eligible costs of between £500,000 and £2 million. - Strand 2: Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles Demonstration Feasibility Studies
The aim of this strand is to fund ambitious feasibility studies for a future zero emission road freight demonstration of 44-tonne hydrogen fuel cell trucks. Studies must determine and present the feasibility of a scaled demonstration. Each project’s total eligible costs must be between £500,000 and £2 million. - Strand 3: Supply Chain Technology Feasibility Studies and Industrial Research
The aim of this strand is to fund industry-led research into supply chain technology for zero emission capable freight vehicles over 3.5 tonnes and the supporting infrastructure. Funding will be awarded to projects with total eligible costs of between £100,000 and £250,000.
This competitions are open to collaborations only. Projects must be led by a UK registered business of any size. The lead should collaborate with other UK registered businesses, academic institutions, research organisations, research and technology organisations (RTOs), charities, not-for-profit or public sector organisations.
