More retail gloom as Swindon retail park suffers

As the Regent Circus branch of Morrisons in Swindon closed for the last time, the future of Mothercare was put in doubt as the company was placed in administration following deepening losses.

The Greenbridge branch of the retailer will shut unless a plan for the company's survival can be found, joining a number of other recent closures on the retail park. These include Homebase, Maplin and Carpetright, which is due to close later this month.

The retail crisis has reached serious proportions in Swindon and discussions are due to take place on how this can be resolved. The town centre has suffered with a number of major shop closures, but now the out-of-town retail parks are also being hit.
