Swindon-based Nationwide Building Society has unveiled a
top-level shake up, with both chairman David Roberts and chief
executive Joe Garner to stand down.
While the departure of Roberts had been rumoured, the loss of
52-year old Garner is seen as a serious blow to the mutual, which has had a
strong period of performance over his six year tenure.
Garner said running Nationwide was a “unique privilege”. Under his leadership, despite the pandemic, the society has grown by over 20 per cent and significantly increased its financial strength and resilience. A search for new leaders is now under way.
